Max resolution: Lossless streaming is more readily available than ever before, but not every lossless streaming service has the same resolution of lossless audio. Some natively support Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, AirPlay, Chromecast built-in or Roon support, for example, which makes it easy to use the services you're familiar with as well as integrate it into a wireless system you already have. Also, if you are getting a streamer with an amp, you want to make sure it outputs the right amount of power for your loudspeakers.Ĭompatible services: Digital music streamers can support a wide range of streaming services and smart ecosystems. But not every one acts as its amp and needs to be integrated in a larger system. Some are able to connect to TVs via optical or HDMI inputs, and some are able to connect to multiple speakers and playback components (like CD plays and turntables).īuilt-in amplification: It's quite common for digital music streamers to have built-in amplification, meaning you can just hook them up to a pair of loudspeakers and - boom - you've got a little hi-fi system. They come in a lot of different forms and with a lot of different abilities, so before buying one you need to check its analog connections - both its inputs and outputs – to make sure the streamer will work for needs and with the current equipment in your home. What to Look forĬonnectivity: Digital music streamers are a diverse breed. Manufacturers are continuously updating their products with support for new formats such as MQA, higher bit/sample rates and new streaming services like Qobuz there are now dozens of products that are Roon-ready devices if you are considering that playback/library management platform.ĭeciding which streamer to buy can be confusing but our picks offer the best options for both the music listener with thousands of CDs or streaming subscriptions such as Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz. While a majority of the routers in our ratings do quite well in our labs, the ones here stand out with strong Overall Scores, offering solid performance at a range of distances and decent privacy and security protections. Our goal remains the same: to provide accurate, scientifically rigorous data so you can make informed buying decisions. Given the big role WiFi now plays in our lives, we recently refined our testing methodology to reflect real-world conditions better. They’re just less equipped to deal with the heavy traffic of a home or apartment building filled with internet-connected devices. While those are generally a few years old, they still perform quite well-and are often cheaper than their WiFi 6 counterparts. I run basically every device at home on a 5G wireless. You may notice that we still have a handful of WiFi 5 wireless routers in those ratings, including prominent models made by companies like Google and Netgear. My experience is that ASUS routers are extremely good, at least if you get over the basic entry level. The current WiFi standard is known as WiFi 6, which is sometimes (including in our ratings) referred to by its technical name 802.11ax. These can cost as little as $20 and generally do a good job of, yes, extending your WiFi network to a hard-to-reach part of your home. On the other hand, if you’re merely trying to improve WiFi in a single room, an inexpensive WiFi extender may be a better alternative. The satellite units of a mesh router can be moved around to maximize coverage, steering the WiFi signal around obstacles such as doors, walls, and appliances. That’s especially true if you work from home, even just a few days per week nobody likes dealing with dropped video calls. The units then “talk” to one another, creating what’s known as a mesh network.Ī single router is generally fine for apartments and smaller houses, but if you live in a house larger than 2,000 square feet, a mesh router may be a better pick. Mesh routers feature one unit that plugs into the modem, plus one or two additional units, sometimes referred to as “satellites” or “beacons,” that can be stationed in other parts of your home. There are more than 100 models in our ratings, split across two categories: multi-unit mesh routers and single-unit wireless routers.Ī single-unit router plugs directly into your modem. But if you experience problems with dead spots or slow connections, Fisco says, it could be time to go shopping. A good router can help you make sure the answer is yes. The most popular ink blotting sheets available today are made by the French ink, pen and stationery company, Jacques Herbin. I also keep a replica classic ink blotting rocker on my office desk (mostly for nostalgia, but it does work quite well), so I cut another sheet into strips that fit the rocker. For my passport-size Traveler’s Notebook, I cut a sheet down to the smaller size and add a small brass tab to the top corner so I can always find it easily. That way I never have to wait for ink to dry. I keep one in every notebook I’m using regularly, and whenever I write anything I simply move the sheet to that page before closing. They come in a size that’s quite convenient to slip into a regular A5-size journal or notebook.I last bought a pack of 10 sheets nearly three years ago, and I’m still working my way through them. And the good news is that a sheet can be used over and over again, so a pack will last a very long time. Unfortunately, no advertisers are still giving away free blotter sheets, but you can still buy them (see below). Click here to see some typical examples on the historical site of the U.S. They printed their campaign advertising on them and sent them out far and wide. They were like extra large business cards, but clients appreciated receiving them and kept them on their desks right in front of them to use.Īnother group who found blotter sheets a perfect promotional tool were politicians. Advertising Ink BlottersĬompanies began giving away blotter sheets with their advertising messages and contact details. Advertisers were quick to see an opportunity and capitalize on it. (Sorry!)īy the 1950’s, even though fashionable desk sets still included a rocker, many people had found that it was just as effective (and a little more convenient) to simply use blotting paper sheets and press them down on a page by hand. So far we’ve established that fountain pen users were the first rock ‘n rollers. They never quite gained the same popularity, probably because they didn’t work quite as well. These blotter rollers can also be found in antique shops and through online auctions, but not as commonly as the rockers. It could then be rolled over the page to absorb the ink. The basic idea was the same botting paper was wrapped around the roller and glued in place. The paper retained ink far better than felt, and could be replaced quickly and inexpensively.Ī variation on the idea of the rocker was another design in the form of a roller. This highly absorbent blotting paper (with the thickness of a card stock) was easily cut to size and attached to a rocker using a plate and screw. You may also recognize it as very similar to the paper used by watercolor artists. Bibulous paper is a fibrous paper that is also used in laboratories for test strips. Then, in 1856, the company of Joseph Parker and Son, began producing bibulous paper for ink blotting. This was a marked improvement, but the felt was expensive and tended to become stained before long and could leave marks. These had a piece of felt attached to a curved base, and were used by rocking the felt over the page so that it absorbed the freshly laid down ink. In the early 1800’s, the first “hand blotters” were devised. It worked to a degree, but you only need to go back and read some documents of that era to see that smudging was a problem. Before the invention of ink blotting paper, starting back in the days of quill pens, people would sometimes sprinkle salt on their writing as a way to quickly dry up excess ink. Hurricane hunters collecting storm data on both coastsĪs the nor’easter swept through the Northeast and a separate atmospheric river system hit the Pacific coast, hurricane hunters with the US Air Force Reserve collected data that could improve future forecasts for the regions. The department also issued a 40 mph speed restriction on Interstate 90, which stretches through the state. States deployed teams of plows and other emergency response vehicles, including the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, which said it sent 1,813 pieces of equipment to respond to the storm and treat roads. In New Hampshire, state troopers responded to more than 200 crashes and vehicles that had traveled off the road, New Hampshire State Police said in a tweet. Officials throughout the affected region warned drivers to take extra precautions or avoid snow-covered or icy roads. More than 2,000 flights within, into or out of the United States were canceled Tuesday, and more than 6,000 additional flights were delayed, mostly connected to airports in the Northeast as the storm plowed through the region, according to tracking site FlightAware.Īirlines including Delta, American, United, Southwest, JetBlue and Spirit have issued travel waivers or flexible rebooking policies for passengers whose flights were impacted by the winter weather. The governor also implored residents to “continue to avoid unnecessary travel so plows and emergency personnel can do their jobs.” Kathy Hochul announced several warming centers available in hard-hit counties, including Albany, Ulster and Saratoga counties. In New York, where about 40,000 residences and businesses remained without power early Wednesday, Gov. Some schools also will be impacted Wednesday, including Worcester Public Schools in Massachusetts, which announced a two-hour delayed start. The storm also caused a slew of school closures and class delays across the region on Tuesday. “Please be mindful of the increased danger for injuries and heart attacks when shoveling heavy-wet snow,” the National Weather Service cautioned Tuesday. Firefighters and police officers used chainsaws and shovels to free the child, who was brought to a hospital with minor injuries. In Derry, New Hampshire, a falling tree struck and trapped a child who’d been playing near a parent who was clearing snow Tuesday afternoon, the city fire department said. The nor’easter – a type of storm that travels along the Eastern Seaboard and brings winds from the northeast – disrupted daily life across swaths of the region, creating treacherous or impossible to navigate road conditions and creating hazards for those trying dig out of the snow. She asks what’s making this process so hard for him, and he says he has no idea how Charity feels about him. Charity is clearly angry, and she pulls Brayden aside to have a private conversation.īrayden tells Charity he’s been “down in the dumps” since they arrived in Washington, following their last conversation. Tanner says Brayden has packed his bags “more than twice” in the first four weeks. Sean and Aaron speak up, pointing out that Brayden has already had a one-on-one and had the opportunity to deepen his connection with Charity, so they’re confused at his continued doubts about the process. The men are pretty aligned that Brayden is wasting Charity’s time if he doesn’t have the intention of getting married and, just as Brayden tries to defend himself again, Charity enters the conversation. Aaron says that it’s Brayden’s problem if his actions don’t match his words. Brayden says he isn’t willing to share his true feelings after Aaron “did him dirty” last week, and he hasn’t had a chance to talk to Charity since. Before she arrives, Aaron and Brayden stir up their usual drama, after Aaron tells Brayden that he’s being pessimistic. That’d be Aaron.Īfter a quick make out sesh with Aaron, Charity joins the men for a cocktail party. After a handful of tasks like foraging for food and a battle of the wits (and a lot of overcompensating from Brayden), Charity finally chooses who she wants to join her at the kissing tree. They’re quite sassy, making sure that the men don’t underestimate them - or Charity. Time for the group date, and Charity has recruited a local Girl Scouts troupe to help them with their forest trek. They end their night with a dip in the hot tub. Naturally, Dotun secures a rose from Charity. Meanwhile, Charity reciprocated by getting vulnerable about growing up in suburban Georgia, where she says not many people looked like her. Love may not conquer all, but it is enough to send them over the edge of the bridge. Charity gets a bit freaked out before the big jump, and she tears up on camera as she talks about her fears. He even knows her favorite color (which, for the record, is blue).Ĭharity and Dotun are unbothered as they venture into the woods to jump off a bridge. In his confessional, he tells the camera that he undoubtedly has the strongest connection with Charity. “They don’t know her favorite color,” he muses.Īt this point, it doesn’t seem like he’s trying to make any friends anymore. Several of them express to each other that they’re disappointed that they didn’t receive a one-on-one yet, but apparently their connection isn’t enough for Brayden - who privately questions how these men can feel anything for Charity when they haven’t spent as much time with her as he has. Just watching Charity pull out of the driveway with another man is enough to send the rest of the group into a spiral. Moments later, Dotun’s chariot arrives - a neon yellow Jeep driven by Charity herself. That’s no surprise since last week he told Charity that she was a “kindred spirit” after they both expressed excitement at the idea of getting to know each other better. I’ll leave it up to your creativity to source one here. A car that was manufactured and produced with the intent to only be sold in the Japanese market and not outside of the country. But if you want to be true to the spirit, a real Tsurikawa can’t be bought and has to be ‘picked’. JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) refers to vehicles and parts designed to conform exclusively to Japanese auto regulations for the sole intent of selling in the Japanese market. It became such as trend that you can actually buy different Tsurikawa styles from a car accessory shop these days. Since then, hardcore Japanese car enthusiasts have taken to rocking a Tsurikawa as an expression of the freedom it represents. This obviously was illegal and by flaunting one in public on was a subtle way of giving the middle finger to society. JDM means any car manufactured specifically for sale in Japan, and not for export to overseas markets such as the United Sates or Europe. According to Garage Dreams, the term refers to any car that was produced for the Japanese Domestic Market. Members of the Bosozoku (Japan’s anti-establishment street gangs) would steal Tsurikawas and blatantly hang them off their car’s rear bumpers ideally dragging them on the ground until they disintegrate. The term JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. What makes it cool, however, was that Tsurikawas became a sign of rebellion. If you regularly take public transport, then you should know this ‘hang ring’ is just like the ones found in any other country that has a mass transit system. The ‘hang ring’, otherwise known as a ‘Tsurikawa’ as it’s called in Japan, is basically a hand strap people are supposed to hold on to when riding the bus or train standing up. In case you didn’t know what the trend is all about, here’s a little history lesson on where it all originated from. Japanese owners contend with a strict motor vehicle inspection. Dont confuse the whole FD/FC thing with FR or MR or FF lol. Think R32 for early nineties Nisaan Skyline etc Next model was R33, then R34. Or that drift culture use to refer to cars. I.e, EUDM Toyota Corolla means this particular trim of corolla is sold. Japanese domestic market (JDM) refers to Japans home market for vehicles and vehicle parts. Its just the model number, that the japanese tend to use to refer to the car. What I initially know is that 'domestic market' means that this styling, kits, wheels, engine spec, regardless of country of origin, is sold in this specific region. These days, it’s common to spot cars done up in some JDM fashion sporting one of these plastic ‘hang rings’ on their rear bumpers. But when someone posts something like a european car with jdm logos and stuff, everyone loses their minds. |
